Overview of Compulsory Social Insurance Contributions in Vietnam (Updated)
Here's a breakdown of the current social insurance contribution rates in Vietnam, covering Social Insurance, Health Insurance, Unemployment Insurance, and Occupational Accident and Disease Insurance:

1. Social Insurance (SI)
- Contribution rate: 26% of the monthly salary used to calculate SI contributions.
- Employee contribution: 8% (covers retirement and survivor benefits)
- Employer contribution: 18% (covers retirement, survivor, sickness, maternity, occupational disease, and work accident benefits)
- Maximum salary for SI contribution: 20 times the base salary (currently VND 29,800,000 per month).
2. Health Insurance (HI)
- Contribution rate: 4.5% of the monthly salary used to calculate SI contributions
- Employee contribution: 1.5%
- Employer contribution: 3%
3. Unemployment Insurance (UI)
- Contribution rate: 1% of the monthly salary used to calculate UI contributions (paid by the employer)
- Maximum salary for UI contribution: 20 times the regional minimum wage.
4. Occupational Accident and Disease Insurance

General contribution rate: Employers contribute 0.5% of their employees' monthly salary fund to the Occupational Accident and Disease Insurance Fund.

Preferential contribution rate (0.3%): Applicable to enterprises that meet all safety and hygiene conditions as prescribed in Article 5 of Decree 58/2020/ND-CP.

Contribution rate for non-professional staff working in communes, wards, and townships: 0.5% of the base salary.
Example:
An employee working in construction with a monthly salary of VND 10,000,000 used for SI calculation. The employer would pay VND 50,000 per month for occupational accident and disease insurance (10,000,000 x 0,5%).
Note:
- The monthly salary used for SI and HI calculations includes salary, allowances, and other supplements.
- The monthly salary used for UI calculation is based on Decree No. 116/2015/ND-CP.
